The US Food and Drug Administration is implementing a new rule that raises the age limit for purchasing tobacco products. Retailers are now required to check the identification of anyone under the age of 30, an increase from the previous limit of 27. The rule also restricts tobacco vending machine sales to spaces designated for individuals aged 21 and older. The aim of these changes is to make it harder for underage individuals to access tobacco products. Studies have shown that the majority of adult smokers started using tobacco before the age of 18. The FDA believes these measures will help protect youth from the health risks associated with tobacco use. The new regulations will go into effect on September 30.
